Torah shield

Shield made of silver-plated brass sheet metal, equipped with a chain for hanging. It has a roughly rectangular shape, with sides flanked by columns with a diagonally fluted shaft and a winged flow at the bottom. The central field of the shield bears a representation of lions with open mouths standing on their hind legs, holding the Tablets of the Law. Below, there is a rectangular opening for inserting a plate with an appropriate holiday name. The entire composition is topped with a crown. The main ornamental motif on the shield is a stylised vegetal vine resembling acanthus.

The item forms part of the prewar collection of the National Museum of Przemyśl. Due to missing inventory documentation it has been impossible to determine how it became property of the Museum.
