Two document photos of Marta Olchawa (born Bauer) (I)

part of the collection
Marta Olchawa – dziewczynka uratowana z getta lwowskiego

The first photograph is a document photo of Marta Olchawa (born Bauer) taken in the 1940s (after the Second World War) at the Foto-Wrzos photography studio run by Adam Śmietański, located at 30a Krakowska Street in Opole. The girl is looking straight ahead; she is wearing a blouse with a sailor collar. She has long hair styled into two plaits, loosened at the front, decorated with two large bows at the head, with visible parting. On the reverse of the photo, there is a caption handwritten in pencil: “Olchawa | Marta”. Below, there is a pink oval stamp of the photography studio with text reading: “FOTO-‘WRZOS’ | owner Śmietański Adam | OPOLE | 30a Krakowska Street”. The paper on the back of the photo is damaged, suggesting that it was torn out of a document. There are also staple marks.

The second photograph shows the same scene as the one described above, but it is clear that it is a fragment of a larger photo – the person on the right has been cut off. The photo has toothed edges, with a white rim running along three sides. On the reverse, there is a pink oval stamp of the photography studio with text reading: “FOTO-‘WRZOS’ | owner Śmietański Adam | OPOLE | 30a Krakowska Street”. | Text by Monika Harchut
