Untitled (Dunikowski’s monument)

Żmijewski, Artur (1966 - )

It is part of the collection:

Black-and-white photograph taken with a wide-angle lens, showing the square along Gen. Władysław Anders Street (ul. gen. Władysława Andersa) with the Monument to the soldiers of the 1st Polish Army.

The monument was realised by Xawery Dunikowski with the collaboration of Józef Galica, Józef Potępa and Jerzy Bereś, as well as Leon Marek Suzin, who designed the pedestal and the surroundings. The monument was unveiled on 12 October 1963, on the anniversary of the Battle of Lenino. It was the last work by Dunikowski before his death (1964); due to the illness, he was unable to complete the sculpture. In the background you can see the characteristic, monumental buildings of the post-war Muranów development, designed by Bohdan Lachert and his team.
