Untitled (Krasiński Garden)

Żmijewski, Artur (1966 - )

It is part of the collection:

Black and white photograph taken with a wide-angle lens showing a fragment of the fence and entrance to the Krasiński Garden located in the Warsaw’s Muranów district, from the side of the Simons Passage Street (ul. Pasaż Simonsa) and the Stare Nalewki Street (ul. Stare Nalewki). It is also part of the former course of the Nalewki Street (ul. Nalewki) and the site where there once was the Simons Passage, a building commissioned by the Berlin merchant Albert Simons in the early 20th century to house commercial premises and offices. The passage was an important place for the Jewish inhabitants of Warsaw. It housed the Jewish Theatre of Miniatures and was also the seat of the Jewish Gymnastic and Sports Association Maccabi. The passage also housed the elegant Herszfinkel’s restaurant which served specialities of Jewish cuisine. Textile sales were also very popular. The passage buildings were almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, their burnt-out remains were still standing a few years after the war ended.
