Untitled (Nalewki 14)

Żmijewski, Artur (1966 - )

Black-and-white photograph taken with a wide-angle lens showing a fragment of the former Nalewki Street (ul. Nalewki), where today there is a square with the post-war buildings of the Warsaw’s Muranów district. The photograph depicts one of the characteristic places of the architectural complex of the post-war Muranów development (for its history, see the note to the photograph MPOLIN-M1046). It is a circular internal square surrounded by residential buildings reflecting representative architecture, located between Ludwik Zamenhof Street (ul. Ludwika Zamenhofa) and Gen. W. Anders Street (ul. gen. W. Andersa), where there is now the Tekla Bądarzewska Square (skwer Tekli Bądarzewskiej). It is also the site of the course of the former Nalewki Street (ul. Nalewki), the main artery of the pre-war Jewish district, which also found itself in the boundaries of the Warsaw Ghetto and, together with almost all of the ghetto buildings, was razed to the ground after the Ghetto Uprising in the spring of 1943.
