We dont want that Oscar!

Leśniak, Tomasz (1977- )

Art print of a satirical drawing reflecting the comic book poetics, which referred to the pseudo-discussion around Paweł Pawlikowski's film Ida and its international success. One of the most important awards received by the movie was the Academy Award for Foreign Language Film in February 2015, the gala broadcast (or rather its fragment) is visible in the picture. The characters watching the broadcast and commenting on it are caricatured (also by, for example, the detail of the napkin under the TV set), and represent a section of society that considers the film to be anti-Polish (as showing, among other things, the killing of Jews during World War II so that Poles could obtain their property).

Subtitles in dialogue balloons:

(he) “WE DON'T WANT THIS OSCAR”,

(she) “BUT IT'S NOT US WHO RECEIVED IT”.

In the upper part above the drawing border a white inscription on a black scarf: “POLSKA MISTRZEM POLSKI” (title of the series) and in a white rectangle to the right of the inscription, in black letters, there an indication of the authors: “TOMASZ LEŚNIAK & | RAFAŁ SKARŻYCKI”.

The drawing was created digitally in February/March 2015. This is also the time when the strip was printed in Duży Format (the supplement to Gazeta Wyborcza).
