Wedding in the Satmer family

Traczewska, Agnieszka (1969-)

A wedding ceremony in a Hasidic family in the town of Petach Tikva in Israel - the moment when the bride and groom and guests are gathered in a room where games and singing and dancing will take place. By this time, all visitors are already spending time in one space, but women, as in the synagogue, are separated from men. In this case, the separating function is performed by a table covered with fabrics. The moment of the nuptials will occur at the very end, when the bride and groom have already met at the yichud, or rest room. The couple go to the yichud as soon as they emerge from under the chupa - they have a moment of privacy and respite from the prevailing wedding hustle and bustle (this rest usually lasts approx. 30 minutes). The bride can wear jewellery at this time and also utters a blessing. The bride and groom stay in the yichud alone, the door is locked.
