Zina (tracks) – unpublished version (I, II)

Siemaszko, Olga (1911-2000)

The tracks leading to the Auschwitz camp, with the smoke from the crematoria visible on the horizon. The two drawings made on a folded sheet of translucent paper are the ultimately unused versions of the illustrations for the short story "Zina" by Maria Zarębińska-Broniewska from the edition in the volume "Ręka umarłej" (Hand of a Deceased). The illustration used only differs in detail from the present versions (see MPOLIN-M1633).

The railroad ties on these drawings are indicated by two horizontal parallel lines connected on either side by short vertical lines.

At the time of donation of the object to the POLIN Museum, it was in a paper frame (it was glued to it from underneath), and in its bottom right corner the artist indicated in pencil the page on which the drawing was to be published: "Str. 82" [Page 82] (in fact, the final version of the work appeared on this page).
