The badge

It is part of the collection

The RAF nationality badge. The badge made of canvas weave fabric in black colour. The inscription "POLAND" is embroidered on the surface of the badge (English: Polska). The embroidery is machine-made with gold-coloured thread. All letters of the inscription are large and form a slight curve (pointing upwards). The shape of the badge is similar to a rectangle. However, it is arranged in a slight arc which corresponds to the shape of the inscription. This type of patch was worn by soldiers of all nationalities serving with the RAF during WW2 to aid identification. The badges were worn on both sleeves. They were to be sewn on at the top, about 2 cm below the sleeve seam.
