Blum, Aviva (1932- )

part of the collection

During her time in hiding in Warsaw during the war, as a child, the artist wove string baskets to survive and to keel her hands and mind occupied. Later, in the early stages of working with graphic techniques, she recalled the weaving of the string which she used at that time.

In one of her works, she experimentally applied its imprint as an additional visual effect. After mastering the technique of collagraphy, this motif often appeared in her prints in various contexts, most often evoking tragic memories of the time of the Holocaust.
