Dora Kalina's Legitimation of the International Theatre Institute

Jest częścią kolekcji

The International Theatre Institute ID card, issued for the name of Dora Kalinówna by the American branch of the organisation, is an inconspicuous document in a grey cardboard cover. Once we open it, however, we are transported into the world of international bohemia. We can see the artist's Slavic-sounding pseudonym (here as Dora Kalinowa), below her Brazilian address, and under it the stamp of the International Theatre Institute of United States, Inc., seated in the famous New York's Broadway ('860 Broadway, New York, New York 10023'). On the second page of the document, we can also find a stamp of the Theatre Institute's Central Office, located in Paris. The artist's profession, defined as: actress/singer/linguist, also draws attention. The mention of the latter profession underlines the importance of the knowledge of foreign languages in the environment of the international stage actors of the time, as well as the possibilities that such knowledge opened.

United States of America permanent residence permit (MHŻP-B746/74)

Permit for Dora Ratner Kalinówna's permanent residence in the United States of America issued on 13 June 1963 by the US Ministry of Justice is a one-page document bearing stamps and a photo of the artist. In the permit, we can find the artist's place of permanent residence in the United States: building number 2 at West Street ("2 West Street") in Manhattan, New York. Currently, only 0.1 miles (approximately 160 meters) from the address mentioned in the permit, the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust can be found.
