Felicja Blumental's zoology notebook

It is part of the collection

Student Felicja Blumental took care of her notebooks, carefully wrapping them in grey paper and signing them in an elegant, clear handwriting. She kept this zoology notebook in the 5th grade of Cecylia Goldman-Landauowa’s Girls’ Gymnasium. From 25 September 1922, in a 30-sheet unruled notebook, Felicja would draw animal organisms, from the oldest and most primitive single-celled species, according to the then accepted division into: Protozoa – Rhizopods (more often called Amoeboids), Mastigophoran, Apicomplexa, through more complicated organisms: corals, sponges, hydrozoan (one of them is devoted a colour drawing), to the anatomical schemes of a taenia, an aschelminth, termites, arthropods, to the arachnids division and the spiders order, represented on the pages of the notebook by the orb-weaver and the African bear spider. | Today, we can still be amazed at the precisely rendered shapes and anatomical details. They remind us that, in the past, students did not have access to beautiful colour photos which can now be easily found not only in textbooks, but also on the Internet. | See also notebook MPOLIN-A30.3.3. | Renata Piątkowska
