Figures and Heads

Tepa, Bruno (1865-1898)

Three sketches on a piece of paper. On the right, there are two drawings depicting heads, on the left, a drawing of two human figures. The sketch in the top right corner depicts the head of an old man en face. He is pictured as a person exhausted with living, wrinkled, with plebeian facial features. He is wearing a modest cap and has thick facial hair. The expression on his face suggests worry or displeasure. The sketch in the bottom right corner is the head of an old physical worker in three-quarter view, turned to the left. His face shows clear signs of fatigue. He has a prominent moustache and a small beard. He is wearing a cap with a high brim. Halfway up the left edge of the piece of paper there is a drawing of two boys in a rural setting. They are wearing common country clothes – trousers, shirts, and hats.

Bruno Tepa (1865–1898) was born and died in Lviv. He was the nephew of Franciszek Tepa (1829–1889). He was first tutored by his uncle and later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Izydor Jabłoński. He also spent some time in Munich. He created drawings, watercolours, caricatures.

Bruno Tepa’s sketches form part of the prewar collection of the National Museum of Przemyśl. Due to missing inventory documentation it has been impossible to determine how it became property of the Museum.
