Flamingo’s head

Walentynowicz, Katarzyna (1986- )

Depiction of flamingo’s head (no neck) - one of the characters in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll; Flamingos were used as a cricket bats in the novel.

Walentynowicz depicted the feathering by drawing detailed, small, conjoined (like roofing slates) hemicycles. Below the final sketch some oval pencil lines can be seen – the initial drafts of head and beak. Overleaf some colourful preliminary imprint (the paper was reused).

The drawing was part of the visuals prepared for the International Children’s Day in the POLIN Museum in 2016, inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (www.polin.pl/pl/dziendziecka2016); it was used in the designs for some elements of scenography (part of the cricket bat).
