Giving a jacket

Chmielewska, Iwona (1960- )

Depiction of a red jacket, fastened at the neck and with a collar, with four buttons and four (two on top and two on the bottom) pockets. It is held by two hands - the hands of an adult man are visible (very detailed, carefully drawn, in a manner typical of Chmielewska's work). It is a jacket for Maciuś, who becomes a king. Maciuś - not depicted on this card - is dressed. Dressing him is in fact shaping him, the child is still undecided, now he has to behave according to the requirements of the situation. The outfit he is being dressed in, the jacket we are learning about here, will be presented throughout the project. | The work is the first part of a diptych showing the dressing-up of Maciuś (see the second drawing: MPOLIN-M421). In "Jak ciężko być królem" [How hard It Is to Be a King] the diptych forms a board for the title page.
