“Hel Enri, Paris” exhibition poster

part of the history

Poster for the exhibition ‘Hel Enri – Paris’, which was held in 1958 at the Kordegarda Gallery. The designer of the poster (and the front cover of the exhibition catalogue) was Roman Cieślewicz (1930–1996), Polish graphic artist, chief representative of the so-called Polish School of Posters.

The poster is divided into two visually distinct parts. In the upper half, on a purple background, there is a black-and-white painting by the artist, depicting a flower vase. The text placed under the graphic and by its side edge reads: ‘ASSOCIATION OF POLISH ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS ∙ CENTRAL OFFICE FOR ART EXHIBITIONS – WARSAW | KORDEGARDA – 15/17 KRAKOWSKIE PRZEDMIEŚCIE STREET – MAY 1958’. In the lower part of the poster, on a navy-blue background, there is white text reading: ‘Hel Enri | PARIS’, surrounded by distorted triangles in different colours.
