Identity card of Natalia Zajczyk

The ID card no. 24627 of Natalia Zajczyk with the note: "This ID entitles you to cross the Polish border after receiving a visa from the State of Israel" with photographs of Zosia and Natalia Zajczyk. It was issued by the Passport Office, the Ministry of Public Administration in 1950.

When deciding to go to Israel, Natalia Zajczyk thought above all about the future of her daughter. She wrote to her sister Anna Zimmerman, who lived in Jerusalem: "I did not even think that Zosia would accept your proposal with such enthusiasm. She directly told me that if I do not decide, she will go with Aunt Ola". (The letter from Natalia Zajczyk to Anna Zimmermann, 19 July 1950, MPOLIN-A31.2.12). Natalia was already seriously ill at that time, but fear and anxiety about the future of her child caused her to start intensive preparations for the trip. Natalia Zajczyk and her daughter left the Republic of Poland legally, with passport/identity card no. 24627 allowing them to cross the border once, which also bore the note: "This card entitles the holder to cross the Polish border after receiving a visa from the State of Israel". They received their Israeli immigration visa on 17 September 1950, left Poland on 26 September 1950, and through Czechoslovakia and Austria reached Italy, and from there took a ship to Haifa.
