Illustration to the scene described by Hanna Krall in her book "Taniec na cudzym weselu" (Kraków 2002), in which one of the German commanders observes the execution of a population: "In front of the pit stood naked people: men, women, the elderly, children. They stood in a line, one behind the other, just as one stands in a normal queue for milk or bread. The queue was about six hundred metres long. At the edge of the pit, an SS man was sitting with his legs swung inwards. He was holding a machine gun in his hands. He gave a signal and the queue moved. People were descending into the pit on the steps dug in the ground. They lined up next to each other, face down. The SS man was shooting. After a while he gave a signal and the queue moved. People were going down into the pit and laying on top of the bodies, which were already lying down. A series of shots rang out and the SS man gave the signal. The queue was moving [...]". MBK
