Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

A drawing illustrating a fragment of Hanna Krall's reportage "Wyjątkowo długa linia" (Kraków 2004), describing the death of Mosze Mordechaj, the last rabbi of the town of Turzysko, who was executed along with other Jewish residents in the forest known as Krępiecki (named after the nearby village of Krępiec, near Lublin). According to the accounts of witnesses, the Nazis would transport people there in trucks to a prepared pit, force them to undress and then systematically killed them one by one as they stepped onto a plank of wood thrown over the pit. The rabbi undressed and stepped onto the plank. However, upon a soldier's signal, he stepped back to place his tightly held prayer book on a stack of devotional books. Then he returned to the plank and prayed. MBK
