Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

An illustration of the description provided by Hanna Krall in one of her reportages in her book "Tam nie ma żadnej rzeki" (Kraków 1998). The illustration shows the courtyard of Friedman's exclusive six-gate corner tenement, before World War II located in the Jewish quarter of Warsaw, on Wałowa Street, corner of Świętojerska. The courtyard of this house was considered the prettiest in the district. "[...] Lawns – trees in the middle – flowers until autumn – lavatory watchwoman – garden caretaker – gate keeper [...]". According to oral accounts, mirabelle plum trees grew in this courtyard – one of which, described in the same reportage, has become a symbol of remembrance of this place. MBK
