Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

The drawing refers to the memoirs of Marek Edelman, which were described by Hanna Krall in her book "Zdążyć przed Panem Bogiem" (Wrocław 1977). It is one of the two drawings illustrating the descriptions of the Jewish people's reconciliation with the inevitability of their impending death and their dignified and peaceful move towards the genocide to come. This, according to Edelman, was much more difficult than armed struggle. "[...] My child,' he says, 'you must finally understand this: these people walked calmly and with dignity. It is a terrible thing when one goes so calmly to one's death. It is much more difficult than shooting". MBK
