Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

One of two versions of a drawing depicting the death scene of Krystyna Krahelska, which was given a symbolic dimension. The drawing is based on the description from Hanna Krall's book "Sublokatorka" (Paris 1985). It is an example of a "beautiful", romantic death from a gunshot wound, amidst blooming sunflowers. "[...] There are sunflowers growing there, but she is so tall that even bent over she cannot hide in them, so the bullet hits her in the back." It differs from drawing no. MPOLIN-M1225 primarily in its use of colour beyond the shades of grey, black and white, which appears in only three drawings in the series, and in minor compositional changes. According to historical sources, Krystyna "Danuta" Krahelska – poet, author of the uprising song "Hej, chłopcy, bagnet na broń" (among others), scout, Home Army soldier and participant in the Warsaw Uprising – was severely wounded in the chest at the Mokotów Field in Warsaw on 1 August 1944, and died the following day as a result of her wounds in a field hospital.
