The drawing is an illustration of a story described in Hanna Krall's book "Dowody na istnienie" (Kraków 1995). A married couple of elderly Jews, with the help of a Pole, provide and equip a hiding place for themselves and other members of their community. After some time, due to the elderly man's persistent cough, the people he hides with kill him for fear of being discovered by the Nazis – the drawing depicts this scene. After the murder of her husband, the woman leaves the shelter and warns the Pole helping them of the risk of denunciation. MBK
