Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

The drawing is an illustration for the story described in Hanna Krall's book 'Hypnosis' (Warsaw 1989). Apolonia Machczyńska, who hides Jews in her granary, seeks refuge for herself and her children from the Nazis after being exposed. Unable to find a refuge, she returns to her home where he waits to die. The book describes the journey of a distraught woman followed by a untied shoelace - a motif depicted in the drawing: “[...] She walked slowly, with her head down, with the lace in one shoe untied, and that lace dragged behind her in the snow.” The story of Machczyńska hiding the Jews was also illustrated by Jaśmina Wójcik in drawing no. MPOLIN-M1213. MBK
