Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

The drawing is an illustration for the story described in Hanna Krall's book "To ty jesteś Daniel" (Kraków 2001), in which a Holocaust survivor visits Tarnów – the place of his life before World War II. The man survived imprisonment in the Auschwitz concentration camp and after the war he immigrated to Canada, where he managed to amass wealth. As an older man, he came to Tarnów. Wearing a kippah and tallit, he took a solitary walk that ended at the market square in Tarnów, where he stood for a long time, occasionally raising his hands. Upon returning to Montreal, he realized that his survival had meaning: it allowed him to bear witness to the existence of the Polish Jewish community and the Holocaust. MBK
