Wójcik, Jaśmina (1983-)

The drawing is an illustration of the scene of a Jewish family's suicide described by Hanna Krall in the book "Taniec na cudzym weselu" (Kraków 2002): "We no longer had a hiding place, we didn't care anymore, and our parents decided to end it. My father, who was a good swimmer, went to the railways. My mother threw me into the Vistula River from the Poniatowski Bridge, and then she jumped herself. The sand diggers saw us. They pulled me out and handed my mother a paddle. My mother pushed the paddle away and shouted not to rescue us because we are Jews. They forcibly pulled her out. They took us to their home, dried us off and found good people where we survived the war." MBK
