An illustration of the story of Lew Salomonowicz P., a physics doctor who was exiled to Siberia and tasked with burying the dead, as described by Hanna Krall in the book "Taniec na cudzym weselu" (Kraków 2002): "The deceased had no clothes or names. They only had number plates. He wondered about the burial rite. He knew that there were various customs, but he was unfamiliar with them. Making speeches would be absurd. Prayer would be fake because he did not believe in God. So he devised his own ritual: he walked around the grave several times, moving his arms as if they were wings. He probably resembled a bird. He thought to himself: let them fly away somewhere, far away from here. Afterwards, he sang, preferably the songs he liked, especially old romances." MBK
