Jakuba Kestenberg's villa and factory in Łódź

Photographic documentation of the site

The plot at Nowotargowa Street (currently Sterlinga Street) was purchased in 1893 by the well-known Łódź factory owner Jakub Kestenberg. On the side of Cegielniana Street (currently Jaracza Street) he built a weaving mill, industrial buildings, and a house for himself. In 1896, the factory buildings burnt down. In 1900, a new woollen goods factory was erected under the direction of the architect Gustaw Landau-Gutenteger. And two years later, on the side of Nowotargowa Street, the Kestenberg residence was built, in turn designed by Franciszek Chełminski.
