"Równe, 30.8.39.
Dear Maryleczka!
I am writing to you even though I have not yet received a reply to my letter. But that's okay. I understand that it takes longer to go from Chylonia. Anyway[,] because we were supposed to let each other know everything - I am writing. Today is Wednesday. The luggage has not arrived yet. So I'm just in a grey blouse, nav[.] skirt, jacket (no shirt, naturally) with 1 pyjama, all jewellery (you know[,] what a misery! But that's okay) and with a whole suitcase of shoes. Funny, isn't it?! Luckily I washed my blouse and underwear. I caught a terrible cold. I have a runny nose, a cough. I even had a fever yesterday. The elevated temperature (probably from love!) does not leave me. Mum made great war supplies. I am bored - that is the term for my stay 'hier'. Today I received a greetings card from Marych. I was madly pleased. You probably gave him the address! Thank you very much! It was the first card that I got here and so I was all the more pleased! Tell him so and thank him warmly. I bought myself a new watch strap: black lacquered two straps, joined together (like my Mum has). It looks v. nice and stylish. I was given a 2 zloty note! Banknote! You understand, here I am the holder of the note. But I won't give it away. That's a shame. Isn't it? You must be surprised why I bore you with such foolishness? But really, so nothing happens that [I have] nothing to write about. I saw (I had to, I just had to change the ink because I had run out) on Saturday, in passing, this student. His name is Mikolai Kornilyev, and he is called Miki or Koko (Ałła told me this)[.] I took 8 photos today, and gave [immediately] to be developed. If they are good, I will send you some. Well, I am finishing, but I will write again soon. Please respond. Heartfelt greetings to the family.
Kisses, always loving you,
Basia
Please write because I miss you. The Volhynia Fair will soon be here."
