Locomotive and waggon

Walentynowicz, Katarzyna (1986- )

Drawings of a locomotive (bottom of the page) and a carriage (at the top of the page) from the first half of the 20th century. The image exhibits interesting play of black and white: the carriage is mostly white (rectangle), lower part, near the wheels is striped with horizontal lines; the roof is black with white, vertical lines. The longish cloud of smoke is coming out of chimney of the mostly black locomotive.

The elements prepared for the “Podróże” [Travels] worksheet from 2016 and the guidebook of the permanent exhibition “Małe Polin” [Little Polin]. They were also used in the design of kamishibai theatre cards. Kamishibai is a Japanese cartoon theatre – illustrated theatre (or – more specifically – paper theatre: in Japanese “kami” means paper, “shibai” – theatre). The theatre was, among others, a part of the Chanukah event in POLIN in 2016 https://www.polin.pl/pl/wydarzenie/chanukowe-warsztaty-i-atrakcje-dla-rodzin-z-dziecmi
