Lonfg live Maciuś

Chmielewska, Iwona (1960- )

The drawing shows King Matt the First looking at the crowd cheering in his honor outside the window. This is one of the works in the project in which the technique used by Iwona Chmielewska is the most visible - the artist creates collages of elements drawn and cut from pieces of paper with prints. Depiction of the floor - it is a strip of gray paper with a print. Three tied curtains hang in front of the window, the pattern of which is a print. Across the entire width of the card above the window line - a visible representation of a white rope: this is a printout drawn with a pencil. Outside the window, in the left half, you can see a landscape with a few buildings, green areas here and there, and in the right half, you can see the crowd of people holding a white banner with a black inscription: LONG LIVE MACIUŚ. This part is almost entirely a drawing - except for the gray figures. They are copies-printouts of elements from a similar work, which is a kind of a diptych - "Precz z Maciusiem" [Down with Macius] (MPOLIN-M437). A copy of an element from that work is also the silhouette of Maciuś (in places drawn with a pencil, e.g. on his hands). | In the picture book "How hard to be the king", the board was used not only in the final part of the book, but also in the initial part - except that without a few elements. Behind the front endpaper, the window itself with curtains is visible, without the figure of Maciuś or the crowd with a banner under the palace window. This builds the framework character of the composition of the entire volume.
