Maciuś in a shirt

Chmielewska, Iwona (1960- )

Depiction of a red-haired boy in a white shirt and red trousers, shown up to his thighs, holding a flower, white in both hands, with a long green stem, in front of him. This is Maciuś with a lily, a symbol of purity, innocence. The lily is also a symbol of royal majesty. It is also a typical funeral flower. Maciuś's father died. (The flower is also a reference to "Blumka's Diary" - in this picture book, on one of the panels, Pola, one of the pupils of the Orphanage run by Korczak-Goldszmit and Stefania Wilczyńska, carries such a flower). | The work is the second part of a diptych showing the dressing-moulding of Maciuś (see the first drawing: MPOLIN-M420, cf. the composition of the two works in the picture book "Jak ciężko być królem" [How Hard Is It to Be a King] by Iwona Chmielewska, where they form the board of the title page).
