Madoc

Litauer-Schneider, Mery (1900-1992)

Besides representations of landscape, Mery (Mary) Litauer-Schneider often depicted old Canadian buildings in her works. Drawings and watercolours presenting houses in Ottawa and Toronto, inspired by the works of Stanisław Noakowski (1867–1928), brought the artist great recognition. The artist presented some of them personally to British Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Canada. “Madoc”, depicting a building in the 18th-19th century French style, is a work created slightly later, in 1974, in the spirit of the artist’s previous works, where it was architecture that “posed” for the painter.
