The Old Bridge

Litauer-Schneider, Mery (1900-1992)

The picture was painted by Mery (Mary) Litauer-Schneider in the 1970s, when the artist and her husband lived in Canada. In that time, the artist travelled extensively, including trips to Mexico and Jerusalem, when she created many of her works. The depicted view of river banks overgrown with deciduous trees indicates, however, that the landscape was painted in Canada. It may have been in the vicinity of the village of Actinolite, seat of the summer school of fine arts founded by the artist and her husband. The school was situated in the scenery that Mary and Roman would call “every painter’s dream.”
