Portrait of Ignacy Feldman, 1946

IAKocuc [?], [...] (act. 1945/1946)

Young man, depicted in bust, en-face. Face calm, hair neatly combed upwards. Cardboard yellowed, visible cut marks. But not damaged.

This carefully kept memento is a portrait of Ignacy Feldman drawn in January 1946 by a fellow inmate (the Cyrillic signature is unfortunately illegible). On the back is a dedication and the signatures of camp comrades, men and women:

“Pust eti podpisy napomniat tsiebe o mnogom!” [Let these signatures remind you of many [things, people].

Before World War II, the Feldmans lived in Warsaw. After the outbreak of war, Ignacy and his son Marian fled to the East. In the Soviet Union, they survived the war. Their mother stayed in Warsaw, she did not want to leave her elderly parents. She went with them to the ghetto. His grandparents died in the ghetto, her mother most probably died in the Treblinka extermination camp (M. Feldman, Z Warszawy przez Łuck, Syberię, znów do Warszawy, Warsaw 2009).
