Letter to Boruch Spiegel

part of the collection

Second letter to Spiegel from a Wyszogród Jew, Laib Frajdzinger (cf. earlier entry in the series). An envelope survives, written in Frajdzinger's handwriting, but with postage stamps (three) and Canadian stamps (from Winnipeg, 9.07.1987, perhaps it was sent to someone to send a letter to Spiegel in Montreal).Letter on a checked sheet of paper, written in Polish, with a two-line annotation in Yiddish under the signature. When addressing Szpigel in Polish, Frajdzinger uses both singular and plural forms of second person (here differentiated by small or bid initial letter), as well as the formal honorific; he writes: “Dear Boruch, I want to inform you that just today I received a package for which I thank you. Actually, I don't have anything to thank you for, but the children thank you for their things and ask you to continue to remember them [...] as long as I'm alive don't forget about me and write a lot, because when I read letters from You it's like I'm talking to You and when I get money or a parcel from you it means something to me [...] I ask You to continue to remember me, always the same | Laib.”
