PTTK Regional Museum (Olkusz)

The Antoni Minkiewicz PTTK Regional Museum in Olkusz is an institution with a rich tradition, located in the oldest secular building in Olkusz (14th to 16th century). For more than 100 years (since 1911), it has been collecting, preserving and making available objects, documents and works of art representing the heritage of our little homeland – the Olkusz region. Numerous initiatives such as exhibitions, lectures and publications are launched every year thanks to the material collected. We aim to keep the heritage of our region alive.

The museum's collection contains many objects and documents relating to the region's Jewish community. The collection contains Judaica, mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. The material often concerns individuals and relates to everyday life. It includes photographs, identity cards, passports, and accompanying correspondence that reveals the motivations, fears and hopes of its Jewish authors. Documents produced after the Holocaust are a vital part of the collection and, to some extent, attempt to preserve what was destroyed.
